Submission + - Why Linux is not attracting young developers (jfplayhouse.com) 3
judeancodersfront writes: Jonathan Corbet recently pointed out at the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit that the Linux kernel team was getting older and not attracting young developers. Does the Linux kernel no longer have the same appeal to young open source developers that it did 10 years ago? Could it be that the massive code base and declining sense of community from corporate involvement has driven young open source programmers elsewhere?

Its due to the constant barrage of FUD stating that OSS is poor quality unusable garbage, full of viruses, only for music pirates AND you cant make any money.
While it may not be true, if kids hear it enough, subconsciously they will react.
Oh, that and with the continued spiral into the 'its all about me', why would kids work hard just to give back to the community? Its all about what can the community give them.

Its the rebel that has become. Nothin bad. But established nonetheless. It doesnt have the "fight the world, fight the establishment" anymore.
Linux has fought and won more than enough battles. But it doesnt have youthfull spirit anymore. Welcome to the real world.
