Chris Farris writes "The Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts, in cooperation with USENIX and Linux International, is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Atlanta Linux Showcase. The Atlanta Linux Showcase will be held at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta on October 12-16 1999. Interested exhibitors should contact exhibits@linuxshowcase.org More details will be coming via our website soon. " If its anything like last years-- hell who am I kidding? I ate half a tin of Penguin Mints. I don't remember anything except the head ache and dave and nate drinking 151.

    Unless of course we're not going this year for the same reasons as last year. How about a show in the new england area for once...The Bazaar had a nice location, but of course that's vaporware and it's not really a Linux show anyway.

    I think Iliad's Tom-Selleck lookalike should be the official mascot of the show. :)
  • Since it's only 4 hrs from here by car. Anyone from Savannah, Ga wanna carpool?
  • We did consider the fact that we would not be riding with Interop this year. This was down for two reasons:
    • Space availability was limited in that time frame.
    • We are focusing more on being a Linux Technical Conference, and feel that many companies will send people as training.

    For some reason having the ATLANTA Linux showcase in the New England area doesn't make much sense!

    Put one on yourself, that's how the ALS started...it just keeps snowballing. :)
  • Last year's ALS was great (though a bad case of the flu prevented me from truly grokking it in fullness), since it coincided with N+I. Unfortunately, N+I is in late September this year, according to their homepage, and I can't justify making two trips to Atlanta in a three-week period to my company (though I'd really like to...). I hope there aren't many more in my shoes. I do wish they'd planned for that this year - it would have been nice to get more non-Linux natives exposed. As it is, I'm sure it'll be a good event, but it's more fun to make new converts than to preach to the ones who already live under your tent.

    So it's just N+I for me, unfortunately...
  • Folks,

    If you go to one Linux show this year, make it the Atlanta Linux Showcase. Last year's was one of the best shows I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot.

    Why?

    * Reasonable price

    * REAL community-based thinking

    * Fun exhibit layout (wandering up and down the one aisle passed the time nicely. :) )

    * Relevant talks

    ...etc., etc., etc. So what are you waiting for? Hie thee to priceline.com (or wherever) and buy your tickets now!

    --Tom Geller, who's considering presenting again.
