Kali Linux 2021.1 Released: Tweaked DEs and Terminals, New Tools, Silicon Macs 10
Slashdot reader Finuz writes: Offensive Security has released Kali Linux 2021.1, the latest version of its popular open source penetration testing platform. You can download it or upgrade to it. Kali NetHunter, the distro's mobile pentesting platform, now has an upgraded BusyBox engine and tools updated to the latest version (or, in some cases, completely rewritten). There are two new Kali ARM images: one that can be used with VMs on Apple Silicon Macs (Apple M1) and the other for the Raspberry Pi 400's wireless card.

Also, used this as a reminder to do some housekeeping and download TAILs too.
I do not use either of them very often, but I have both at the ready in my toolbox.

Aren't all Macs running on silicon? /sarcasm
I know Apple calls them "Apple Silicon Macs", but "ARM Macs" is just shorter. Alternatively, we could call them "AAPLSi Macs" just to annoy them (Apple's stock ticker combined with the atomic symbol for Silicon).

Has win-kex - runs Linux Desktop/GUI on Win WSL2 (Score:3)
While normal use maybe for pen testing, its a perfectly fine distro.
You can install any desktop environment and apps you desire (Cinnamon, Mate, Gnome, KDE, Pantheon) and avoid the pen testing apps bundles if you want.
But the nicest thing about it is their Win-Kex system which lets you run the full Kali Linux Desktop (GUI) in WSL2 on Windows 10, right out of the box (almost).
Usually getting linux DE/GUI on Win10 WSL2 is a lot of fiddling. Win-Kex works out of the box ! With 3 modes, vnc/rdp/vcxsrv all autoconfigured.
No separate VMs. It even adds Linux start menu bar to top edge of win 10 while bottom has win start menu !

And it seems to take less resources and is faster than running another VM instance in Hyper-V / VMware/VBox. Below image has it running along with a win10-ent Hyper-V VM, both on top of the Win 10 pro on my thinkpad yoga 260 w/ just 8GB Ram
