First UK Meeting For Gentoo Devs & Users

I've known about the prospect of a meet for sometime now, being a regular on gentoo-dev and -user, even planned with a new member in our Salford (Manchester) office (I work from Bradford, live in Huddersfield, but spend 1 day a week in Salford) to both go.
But I fly out to the US (for work), from Manchester Airport, on August 31st.

2004.2 Experience?

[I'm not a Gentoo user, but might try it out later this year - hopefully on a dual Opteron workstation.]

So how are Gentoo users faring with the 2004.2 release [gentoo.org]?

And is the organization healthy despite Daniel Robbins stepping down from the top spot [slashdot.org]?

Daniel had been playing a smaller and smaller role in the general affairs of Gentoo leading up to his stepping down. To be honest, there wasn't much he was directly involved in other than the formation of the Not-for-profit company before he stepped down. He was simply too busy with other engagements.

Gentoo has been run by its managers for a while now, so it was business as usual when he made his announcement.

Gentoo 2004.2 isn't much different than 2004.0 as far as I can tell. Some updated packages and a little better hardware support. Remember that with Gentoo, official releases aren't that important because of how it's designed. At any time anyone can run some commands to completely update their system. When people complain about how difficult it is to install, you have to keep in mind that you'll only need to do it once.

And it's not difficult to install, it just takes time.
