    Awesome!

A show I had never heard of for a full 10 seasons is making a triumphant return for an 11th!

If you phrase this as a shell command:

          > apt-get remove me & I shall become stronger than you can possibly imagine...

It's important to note that you could become stronger than the caller can possibly imagine before you are removed - thereby giving you the ability to prevent your own removal. It's very important to handle race conditions like this correctly...

Don't mistake that for years in production. They have a LOT of season breaks. Not sure why, they seem to be at about 100 shows or so, 10 shows per season. The Linux Link Tech Show is at episode 340 or so, and still on their first season.

When I got into the whole podcast thing, I downloaded basically everything that had to do with either mobile tech, Apple and Linux. To my surprise, most Linux-related podcasts are really, really bad. The quality was often lacking in almost every area, be it pacing, sound quality, speakers, intro/outro, interviews you name it. This all in sharp contrast with podcasts that are related to mobile news and Apple or iPhone.

So I'm very interested in this (for me new) podcast, but it better have at least some semblance of quality.

    • There are two versions of the show: The Audio Version : Edited properly with an ear towards quality. The Video Version : This is more of a "behind the scenes" video. Lots of fun. But not edited.

To my surprise, most Linux-related podcasts are really, really bad.

This surprises you how exactly? Linux users are almost never involved in media production, most coming from orthodox IT-related areas. I do a lot of creative production work, and I have to laugh every time I talk to somebody who is both a Linux user (as I am), really into tech, and somehow passionate about getting something produced. They really have no clue what is up or down, and most of their anecdotes come from being really pissed off by Flash-driven websites, even when they ARE dealing with time-bound, linear media where something like an "animated intro" is considered a staple of production. I still chuckle about it.

      • by h4rr4r ( 612664 )

Does not mean that flash is the right way to do it. Any video can give you an animated intro and is liner and timebound, without the amateur-hour tech that is flash.

        • Right, but presumably when you're NOT MAKING A WEBSITE, "don't do an intro, I hate Flash intros on websites" may not be the most appropriate thing to say...
      • Then you have the dangerous ones, like me. I can play music. I can compose. I can model in 3D.

Buuut I can't code very much... so I guess I don't fit the stereotype.

    • Meh, I never "got into the whole podcast thing" but I did listen to lugradio [lugradio.org] religiously. Figuratively PMSL at most of the episodes and the earlier shows did tend toward being amateurish but definitely improved over time. IIRC, it also sparked the development of Jokosher [jokosher.org]

Check out Leo LaPorte's TWiT [twit.tv] lineup. Only one podcast is directly to do with open source (FLOSS Weekly [twit.tv], hosted by Leo, Randal Schwartz, and on occasion Jono Bacon) but all of his shows are extremely well produced. Leo is a "real" geek and a bona fide on-air radio personality as well, a rare combination. My other favorite on the network is Security Now [twit.tv] with Steve Gibson. It's a good podcast if you like in-depth discussions on crypto, CPU architecture, network protocols, and other low-level topics.

      • Yep, Leo Laporte's work is great. I heard his This Week In Tech and TWiGoogle shows, and hadn't heard about the FLOSS Weekly show, thanks for that.

These clowns put on a hysterical "morning zoo"-style charade with forced "energy" and falseness throughout. They are also very anti free software, to the point that free software makes them hysterically angry. They constantly try to manufacture conflict where there is none, and go on crusades against pointless minutia. No thanks, it's a waste of time.

Give me LugRadio back any day.

  • I guess this podcast is named as such, because it's about the only action that listeners are going to get all year.
  • They renamed the Linux Action Show to the "Computer Action Show", but it's still the same show. Is this LAS an entirely new show starting at season 11, then, or are they just renaming CAS back to LAS?

  • The linux action show returns! This was almost overkill when i heard it! to good to be true! AND its coming back on a weekly basis this time! Linux Action Show is so much cooler then the Computer Action Show, because CAS is to generic, and to less linuxy! I waited and hoped for this moment quite a while now, that the Linux Action Show would return someday. Its the best Linux only content show around! #LAS has a large fanbase! the podcast was downloaded a gazzilion times, and a lot where there at the live b
  • I gave up on them once I discovered Linux Outlaws (whom I'm also getting a bit bored with..perhaps bored with Linux news every week..no thanks... where is there an enterprise podcast covering SANs and virtualisation ?).
As someone else pointed out, Chris and Bryan's "morning zoo" style of hosting is tedious plus Chris has a serious man crush on Bryan which really becomes annoying......almost as annoying as there constant diatribes about Ubuntu.

I gave up Linux Outlaws as well, after they started pointless negative campaigning too. Like LAS, it just became a too negatively focused podcast for no good reason.

  • Will they be publishing transcripts? That's the only thing I care about. I can read an hour of bad audio in fifteen minutes or less. I'll listen to music while I drive, thanks.

  • Though good luck to the Linux Action Show anyway.

Very decent interviews every week. Linus was already interviewed and A LOT (more than 100) of good project developers too.

  • When it was called the Linux action show, only portions about it were about Linux or software that runs on Linux

    • You should watch "Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show".

It is on YouTube, and contains very good information about Unicow and also Ron Jeremy's Big Janitors.

  • ...I thought, "By day, he is Linus Torvalds, just an ordinary father of the Linux kernel. By night he is... Linuxman!

  • And it is Ubuntu UK Podcast. Profesionally done, nice on topic talks about interesting open source and Ubuntu topics, very good interview section, etc. Very recommended for non-geeks. Yeah, no gags and no jokes like LUGRadio or shot Shot Of Jaq, but that's what I need. I like diversity that we have in Linux podcasting, because sometimes I like to switch my brain off and laugh like crazy with Bacon and friends.

  • Not as high on production quality, but live every week, with great guests and informative conversation. http://tllts.org/ [tllts.org]

  • Very informative indeed.
  • Great show; glad to see it continuing. I've been listening to these guys for a while, and I look forward to each episode still.

Keep up the good work! But please don't ask me to help.
