eldavojohn writes "Today Google has announced they will buy video and VoIP codec developer Global IP Solutions (GIPS) for approximately 421 million Norwegian kronor ($68.2 million) in cash. Speculation has it that this acquisition will aid them in their HTML5 video codec development as they strive to embrace HTML5."
