  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

Fall and autumn are both accepted and widely used terms for the season that comes between summer and winter. Some who consider British English the only true English regard fall as an American barbarism, but this attitude is not well founded. Fall is in fact an old term for the season, originating in English in the 16th century or earlier. It was originally short for fall of the year or fall of the leaf, but it commonly took the one-word form by the 17th century, long before the development of American English. So while the term is now widely used in the U.S., it is not exclusively American, nor is it American in origin.

In the wintertime, nobody bitches at me for neglecting to "go outside & enjoy the weather" like they do in summertime.

Nevermind the fact that summer weather around here is almost completely unenjoyable.

Just thinking about having to spend significant time outdoors during the summer around here makes me start to sweat. Hell Spring and Fall aren't all that much better, we get maybe a couple weeks of pleasant temperatures a year. I think part of it though is aging. I find that as I get older I have less and less patience to deal with being out in the heat.

This is really insightful, since we tend to anticipate the upcoming season. The only exception I think would be in Fall, when I don't think any more people would pick Winter. People don't tend to look forward to Winter unless they do year-round.

It's the best three weeks in Canada, and the only time you are able to go outside in shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt at any time of the day or night and not freeze. Plus we get 16 hours of sunshine! :)

Fall is my least favorite. Sure there's the magnificent fall colors, but that only lasts two or three weeks. After the leaves all fall off we're left with 50 shades of drab, dreary, depressing grey for two months until the snow comes in late December and brightens up the place a little.

    • I'm with you - fall is the WORST! The sun goes away, everything dies, and it's cloudy and rainy all the time. At least after the snow and cold comes you have something to man up and fight against.
      • by rve (4436)

I don't really see why fall is so popular either. Where I live, fall just means mud, storm and cold rain, rain, rain every day. It means the light goes away and you won't see the sunball again until next May or June if you're lucky.

Here in England, winter is just a darker, slightly colder version of autumn.

Winter. It's the best three weeks in Texas, and the only time you're able to go outside without becoming sticky with sweat after 15 seconds at any time of the day or night. Plus, you get so sleep with an actual blanket, instead of the thinnest sheet you can find. It's great to actually be able to wear normal clothes outdoors—layers! Suits! Coats!

I voted summer as well, since out of the choices, we only get two of those seasons where I live (Oklahoma), and I don't like winter.

When I was a restless kid with unlimited energy, it was summer hands down. The seemingly endless summer break, the adventures, the DIY projects...

Now it's autumn. As an adult you appreciate the subtlety and richness under the unassuming quietness of the falling leaves.

I suppose in a few decades when the prospect of graveyard starts to manifest over the horizon, I will find the allure of winter.

Interestingly enough, there is a parallel in my favorite color over the years.

I usually get fed up with seasons by about the 2-month mark. Personally, I just like it when they change.

Seeing the first flowers poke up through the snow in the spring. That first sunny day of summer when it's warm enough to go to the beach. The crispness in the air and the changing leaves at the beginning of fall. The magic of the first snowfall of the year.

    Change is what's awesome.

  • Road Repair

  • Summer is the freedom to leave the house without a coat, without having to worry about getting cold or rained on.

Everyone that said fall or autumn is just kissing up to the new season in the hope that they'll be treated well by it.

    • by Whorhay (1319089)

On the contrary, here in the south winter means being free to leave the house without being constantly oppresed by the unbearable intensity of the sun and suffocating in the humidity. Down here spring and fall are about the only time that you'll get nice weather and even then it's only for a week or two each. Winter is pretty ugly here as half the trees lose their leaves but there isn't much color change and other wise it's just colder and wetter than normal with no snow, so winter sports aren't workable ei

  • I voted Spring (Was surprised at the number of fall votes). Living in the southeast of America I've come to dislike three seasons though Winter is not that bad. In my spare time (ha) I ride/compete with horses and our competative season conforms to cooler months. From least to best

4 - Summer - As a Texan put it, you melt in the heat and humidity. Riding is performed either early in the morning or as the sunsets. Horses sweat, people sweat, roads melt, there is little to no breeze, the sun feels like

  • I'm guessing if you live in an area where summer is nothing but a hot sweltering mess, you will select fall. However, I've lived in the North East US/Canada for all of my life and summer is my favorite season. I like having warm temperatures at night, golfing, swimming, boating, etc.

Fall is nice for the first month, but it then starts getting dark early, cold at night (i.e. frost), and all those pretty leaves leaves fall off the trees leaving them bare. Late fall also tends to be windy, then stormy, then
