You know... I keep going back through my childhood for games I'd like to play with my own kids, and the list goes something like:
Super Dodgeball (NES)
Contra (NES)
River City Ransom (NES)
Great Tank / Iron Tank (NES)
MegaMan (NES)
1943 (NES)
I try to think of games from the SNES I'd like to play with them, but all the good ones I can think of now have better versions on the PS:
Chrono Trigger
FFIII / VI
But maybe it just means I'm too damn old.

One cute platformer I discovered the other day is Mr. Gimmick [youtube.com]. I love its soundtrack too.
Lately I've somehow become more fan of 16-bit machines (SNES, Genesis, etc.). You just get the extra perfection: no flickering sprites, more objects on screen, parallax scrolling, true color palette, better sound department. Generally I've been a PC lamer though, I've never owned any console!

The PS1 versions of FF VI and Chrono Trigger are not better, IMO. Did you forget about the ridiculous disc load times? And other than that and some animated cut scenes, they're essentially just emulated versions of the SNES games.
Also, my favorite SNES games are things like Mario Kart, Mega Man X, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Earthbound, Actraiser, and Harvest Moon. Not sure I'd put the MMX games above the originals, but there are a lot of SNES games that I simply consider superior to their NES counterparts, or that have no NES counterpart at all.
I would definitely play the GBA or DS versions of FF IV before the SNES version.

The DS version is polygonal and uses completely original graphics, so that's not even a logical comparison (and technically, it has 60% higher vertical resolution due to being two screens).
And in the case of the GBA version, you'd take 20 horizontal pixels over not having to play easy type, having a better translation, a bestiary, and having a massive post-game dungeon added to the game? Unlikely.

Because if you take the "super" off of "supersonic" you get "sonic", not "subsonic". If you fly AT the speed of sound, wouldn't end up producing a steady stream of sonic booms? That really would suck.
Oh, it gets weirder - you become a hedgehog and you now run faster than sound instead.

More seriously, sonic booms are constant pressure waves (aka shock waves [wikipedia.org]) that radiate out conically from the source similar to the wake of a boat except in 3D. They also vary in intensity similarly, the larger and faster the object, the larger the wave.
That being said, the shock wave from an object traveling at the speed of sound would produce a weaker sonic boom.
The bigger problem flying in the transonic region is the there are areas where the flow around the aircraft is faster and causes shocks to form in ways that diisrupt the flow increasing drag and causing control issues.

Endorphin Rush, Dave's Insanity Sauce (and all the other Dave's sauces), Da Bomb, etc. The first time I tried Endirphin Rush, one drop was enough to get me sweating and feeling light headed so of course I bought a bottle. Love the way you can add just a drop or two to something and the head level goes up nicely.

It's made from a mix of pure capsaicin crystals and Moruga scorpion chilies. One drop made my eyes tear, and I almost doubled up in pain. Takes a couple of minutes after eating to hit full potency.
